Overseas Koreans and foreigners living abroad will be able to enroll in the National Open University of Korea from next year.

According to the National Open University of Korea, a new admissions process for overseas Koreans and foreigners living abroad will be established starting by recruiting new and transfer students for the first semester of next year.

The educational background requirement is that new students must be high school graduates or prospective graduates, and transfer students must be graduates of a university or college or have completed at least the first year of a four-year university.

Overseas Koreans and foreigners residing abroad must live abroad for more than 3 months to enroll through the overseas residing foreigner admissions process.

Students can apply to 20 of the 24 courses the National Open University operates. Admission is restricted to four courses that students need to participate in practical courses: Social Welfare, Food and Nutrition, Early Childhood Education, and Sports Guidance.

Students can take classes and grade evaluations 100% remotely while living abroad. Classes are conducted only in Korean, and grades for midterm and final exams are evaluated by submitting assignments. However, students who enroll through this process cannot receive scholarships and cannot graduate early or double major.

앞으로는 재외동포와 해외거주 외국인도 국립 한국방송통신대학교 입학이 가능해진다.

13일 국립 한국방송통신대학교(이하 방송대)에 따르면 내년 1학기 신·편입생 모집부터 재외동포와 해외거주 외국인을 위한 입학 전형을 신설한다.

학력 요건은 신입생의 경우 고등학교 졸업(예정)자, 편입생은 대학·전문대 졸업(예정)자나 4년제 대학 1학년 이상 수료한 자이다.

재외동포 및 해외 거주 외국인이 해외거주외국인 입학 전형을 통해 입학하려면 3개월 이상 해외에 거주해야 한다.

이들은 방송대가 운영 중인 24개 학과 중 20개 학과에 지원할 수 있다. 실습 교과목이 있는 사회복지학과, 식품영양학 전공, 유아교육과, 생활체육지도과 4개 학과는 입학이 제한된다.

해외거주학생으로 입학하면 해외에 거주하면서 100% 원격으로 수업과 성적 평가를 받을 수 있다. 수업은 한국어로만 진행되며 중간·기말시험 등 성적 평가는 과제물로 일괄 제출해 평가한다. 성적장학금은 받을 수 없으며 조기졸업이나 복수전공도 할 수 없다.
